When the difficulties of life leave you feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope, I can help you to find the first steps to recovery. No one therapy can work for all, so my approach is to build on what works for you, drawing on therapeutic disciplines that best fit your presentation and personality. I see therapy as a way of helping you out of distressing and confusing situations that life can throw at us. I want to listen as carefully as I can to what's troubling you and work with you to find practical steps towards a more fulfilling life.
Why not have an initial meeting to see how I can help you? Drop me an email or ring and leave a message, letting me know the best time to return your call. We can then identify the challenges you face and what you want to change. We’ll agree on the type of therapy most suited to overcoming those challenges and work together to identify your goals and how we might measure your progress. Together we’ll agree on future sessions according to your goals and means.
Experience:
I have worked as a therapist since 2002 in a variety of settings including NHS trusts, GP practices, Higher Education and mental health charities. I have helped people to overcome a wide range of mental health and personal development difficulties, including anxiety, OCD, depression, phobias, trauma, PTSD, relationships, perfectionism, procrastination, worry, insomnia, poor self esteem, social anxiety and many more conditions.
Qualifications:
I am accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the EMDR Association UK & Ireland. As such I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework. I am a trained Cognitive Analytical Therapist and clinical supervisor.
Supervision:
My core training is in humanistic psychology and I endeavour to provide a non-threatening and safe space for supervisees to explore fully their relationships both with their clients but also with me as supervisor. As relational beings our lives will be influenced by personal and professional relationships - it is not possible, nor desirable in my view, to attempt to leave significant events 'outside the supervision space'. At the same time supervision is not counselling and agreeing boundaries is an important element of the contract.
My own work draws on three main disciplines and I bring these to supervision. My experience in working in higher education as well as in the private and voluntary sectors is broad enough to be valuable to the therapists I supervise. My aim is to provide supervisees with the resources they need whether these are to do with therapeutic skills, self-care and resilience or the adherence to professional and ethical standards. Please note that I do not supervise EMDR therapy.
People are quick to play the blame game, especially when faced with challenges. I find it helpful to remind myself that I am the sum of every moment that I have ever lived, and this helps provide a little perspective, says Omar Sattur.
The inclusive space
Counsellors open their doors to anyone who knocks; but who actually knocks? Inclusion is about equalising access and opportunity and eradicating discrimination and intolerance, says Omar Sattaur
Counsellor Omar Sattaur explores inner joy and contentment through the ability to learn to love change.
