Hello there. My name is Rob Kendall. I have worked in NHS mental health services for over 20 years and have recently started to offer private psychotherapy in Bristol.
I enjoy helping people to understand themselves, to think about what they might need and to be kind to themselves. This exploration may centre around a specific issue or problem in the present or the past, or it may relate to wider questions around meaning, purpose and identity within the wider framework of life.
I offer a warm and welcoming space and an open, trusting relationship in which you will be accepted and valued exactly as you are. An opportunity to slow down and notice what is happening in the mind and the body and in relationship.
I am not an "expert" who will tell you what is wrong with you and try to "fix" you. I offer myself as an experienced guide who can come alongside you on your life journey. This involves honouring all of the ways that you have found to protect yourself over the years and considering whether these coping strategies are still needed or effective.
This process allows us to become clearer about the links between the past and the present and offers us wider choices as we look ahead into the future. As we acknowledge this and become aware of our patterning, we find that deep inside all of us there a sense of health, goodness and intelligent awareness that knows exactly what we need in order to make the most of this one precious life. I will help you to re-connect with this, allowing you to come home to yourself and to gradually and kindly let go of the things that no longer serve you so that you can experience more spaciousness and freedom.
I believe that these principles apply to anyone in any situation and so I am happy to work with people with a wide range of difficulties, challenges or diagnoses.
I offer a free introductory session. This gives you the chance to meet me and to get a feel for what I am offering and to consider whether it feels right for you. It is a big step to start therapy and so it is important to try to find the right person for you.
Following the introductory session, I offer an initial 6 week period of weekly therapy which we then review together before you decide whether to continue further. I am able to offer short or long term therapy, which can include sessions by telephone or video-conferencing if direct contact is not possible.
I have a Masters degree in Mindfulness Based Psychotherapeutic Practice. I receive regular supervision from a UKCP registered supervisor and am a Trainee Member of UKCP. As I am in the final stages of my accreditation process, I am able to offer therapy at a reduced rate of £40 per session.
