Caroline Grindrod

Hi I’m Caro (she/her).

I am a compassionate and collaborative experienced Family & Systemic Psychotherapist, with 25 years of clinical experience – working in CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services). I am now working in independent practice in Oxford, Bristol and online, as Heliotrope Family and Relational Therapy. I offer a containing, non judgemental and respectful space to meet you where you’re at and allow you to feel safe to be yourself to build a trust in our work together.

My specialist expertise is in working with children and adolescents with mental health difficulties, but I am confident and experienced in working with individuals, couples and families across the age range.

I offer family therapy, parenting work, couple/relationship therapy, sibling work and individual systemic focussed therapy. My focus is on helping family members and people in relationships talk together to allow a better understanding and support for each other, to refocus on your strengths and mutually find ways forward for desired change. I work flexibly with any family members (as you identify family) altogether or in different configurations in a way that feels right for you.

I work with a wide range of difficulties where relational thinking will be useful, such as relationship struggles & family conflict, families navigating grief & loss, families navigating unexpected change or life transitions, mental or physical health issues,  navigating neurodivergence (ADHD & Autism) and gender identity, trauma and complex PTSD , adult children of parents with mental health problems, adult siblings.

I have training in couples and relationship work and particularly enjoy working with people who are gender, sexuality and relationship diverse.  I am competent and affirmative working with people in consensually non-monogamous relationships, including work with polycules.

I offer systemically orientated individual work where we can explore the relationship you have with yourself and your relationship with others, taking into consideration your context and experience in the world, to support you to find the best lived experience for yourself in line with your values and authentic self. I am interested in the stories we tell ourselves about our lives and in helping reshape these if they are not currently serving us.

I particularly enjoy working with neurodivergent people, and offer an affirmative approach and reasonable adjustments to support access and equity. If we work together I will ask what will be useful for you in this regard.

Frequency of sessions is led by your needs – generally sessions run every 2-3 weeks. Family Therapy is generally quite short term between 6- 12 sessions.

To get started, please email me your contact details and a brief summary of what you are experiencing. We can schedule in a discussion by phone or email so that we can decide together on whether you would like to arrange an in-depth initial consultation.

For professionals  : I am trained in Systemic Supervision and am available as a Systemic Supervisor for clinicians and trainees, who are interested in or who have training in Systemic Therapy. I also offer Eating Disorder supervision/training for professionals and hold a qualification in supervision for Family Therapy/Multi Family Therapy for Eating Disorders.

Online and/or telephone appointments are available.
