Carolyn Hextall
Hello, I’m Carolyn, a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and accredited Coach. Life can bring a myriad of challenges that leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of the way forward. Whether you have a specific issue that you would like to explore or a general sense of unease, a knowing that something isn’t quite right, I offer a safe, supportive, non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
My core training is in Transactional Analysis, a practical approach that helps you understand yourself and your relationships more clearly. As an Integrative Counsellor, I also draw from Gestalt, Humanistic, and CBT models, tailoring sessions to suit your individual needs.
I believe the heart of therapy lies in a strong, trusting relationship, where we can explore the issues you face in the outside world, through the lens of our work together. With over 30 years’ experience in education, including as Assistant Director of Wellbeing at one of the UK’s leading independent schools, I have worked extensively with both adults and young people. I have a particular interest and experience in supporting young adults (18–late 20s) through the unique challenges of this life stage: identity, relationships, leaving home, higher education, and the workplace. Transition life stages for older adults – midlife, menopause, career changes, empty nesters and retirement – is also an area I am passionate in supporting.
As a classical musician, I sometimes integrate creative approaches into sessions to help unlock unconscious patterns and foster new perspectives. With a collaborative and creative style, I aim to uncover the deeper roots of your current challenges and help facilitate lasting change. As the psychotherapist Julia Samuel so aptly writes, “Pain is the agent of change.” In our work together, we will gently explore what needs attention, and move towards greater understanding, healing, and possibility. I hold a Diploma in Counselling from The Link Centre, and I am currently working towards full UKCP registration as a psychotherapist (expected 2026). I am also a registered member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and adhere to their ethical code of practice. I hold a Diploma in Coaching (ICF accredited) and am in the unique position of offering a blended approach of both counselling and coaching.
If this is something you would like to explore, I will be happy to offer options. I offer both short and long-term therapy, in person and online. I charge £65 per 50-minute counselling session, with a limited number of reduced rate places for clients on a low income. Price on application for coaching packages.
Online and/or telephone appointments are available.
