I qualified as a nurse 33 years ago and have worked in the NHS since that time. I took up my current position of a clinical nurse specialist in neurology 26 years ago after moving to Sheffield. I trained and qualified in Western Medical Acupuncture with the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS)15 years ago and have been running an acupuncture clinic in the NHS since. Western medical acupuncture is a therapeutic treatment involving the insertion of fine needles; it is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture but uses current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the principles of evidence based medicine.
I use acupuncture for all painful conditions including neuropathic pain which can be difficult to control with conventional medication. Medical acupuncture is approved by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) for headache, migraine and lower back pain but is often difficult to access through the NHS.
I have seen within my 15 years of practice in Medical Acupuncture how it has helped painful conditions when other treatments have failed.
I treat all painful conditions including musculoskeletal pain, neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, FND, headaches and migraines.
