Elaine Flannery
I understand that when you’re overwhelmed or feeling stuck that making changes can feel daunting. I can help individuals, couples and families navigate these challenges. My aim is to create a supportive environment where you feel listened to, and safe to express yourself.
My approach is grounded in systemic family therapy, which is a holistic approach that looks at what’s happening in your relationships, the patterns between people and your different contexts, not just what’s happening within one person. Additionally, I am trained in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) for depression which is an evidence-based, structured, time-limited therapy. Many people experiencing depression find that it’s closely linked to their relationships, family dynamics, or life transitions. I have also completed training in the Exeter Model a couple therapy for depression.
I offer a space to explore not just how you feel, but how patterns in your relationships may be shaping and maintaining those difficulties. Where helpful, I can incorporate creative approaches such as sand tray work. This can help when it is difficult to find the words for experiences or feelings.
I am a Systemic Family Therapist/Psychotherapist and accredited Counsellor. I am an accredited BACP member and a registered UKCP member. I have experience working in the NHS in adult mental health services, including community mental health teams and primary care. I have also worked across schools, and the third sector. I am experienced in working with children, young people, adults, and older adults, which gives me a broad understanding of how difficulties evolve across the lifespan.
