I offer group analytic psychotherapy and individual psychotherapy.

As a psychotherapist, my approach is based on a range of professional past clinical experience. I have worked in different mental health sectors as an Occupational therapist and Adult Psychotherapist in the NHS, Social Services and with trainee Doctors, for 20 years. I have experience working with adults individually and in groups; offering therapy for themes such as relationship and attachment difficulties and complex emotional needs.

My approach is to work flexibly with people’s different needs, with a core focus on each person’s specific needs. I believe in the creative and therapeutic potential of therapy in groups; their capacity to meaningfully contain difficult, intimate, ambivalent and sometimes strong emotions. I have found that talking and thinking with an experienced therapist, in a confidential therapeutic environment, can offer the possibility of developing new ways of thinking, understanding and insight into patterns of relating. This creates a space for change in the present and also hope for the future. Sessions are once weekly, online and/or in person.

The therapy can be open-ended or time-limited, according to individual needs. This is something to be discussed in an initial consultation. As with all therapies it is important to commit yourself to attend regularly. Group analysis is a form of psychotherapy based on the idea that our individual difficulties occur within the context of our relationship with others and society as a whole. Its focus is simultaneously on the here-and-now and the origins of our current concerns in the past, and on how we can move beyond these. ‘The experience of belonging to a group over time can in itself be healing. To be oneself and to have a sense of belonging; these are valuable achievements in a pressurised, at times alienated existence.’ Morris Nitsun, (Group Analyst)
