Jemma Timberlake
Jemma is a registered Art Psychotherapist with HCPC. She offers art therapy sessions to children, adolescents and adults. Holding a safe and contained space to explore difficult experiences and emotions through the use of art materials, play, and conversation. With a particular interest in working with trauma, neurodiversity, chronic illness, gender transition/dysphoria, and bereavement.
Jemma has worked as a therapist in an NHS CAMHS service, and in both primary and secondary educational settings with looked after young people, and those on the Special Educational Needs (SEN) register. Here, she facilitated therapeutic groups focused around grief, communication skills, and emotional regulation. Alongside this, she has been working with young adults at a mental health charity primarily with people from ethically diverse backgrounds and those who have less financial access to therapy.
Jemma brings warmth, compassion and empathy to the therapy room, aiming to gently challenge and offer new perspectives whilst bringing a source of light in the darkness. Adopting a trauma informed approach which is both psychodynamic & psychoanalytical, we can focus on past and present experiences. This could be exploring attachment theory, noticing repeating relational patterns, cycles of conflict, and thinking collaboratively about how you can begin to break free from these.
Art therapy can help with articulating and processing traumatic experiences, holding and containing some of the unspoken pain. Together we can share curiosity about what emerges in the imagery, how it felt connecting to the materials, and to think about what it might be telling us about your life experiences & sense of self.
