My pronouns are she/her

Hi, I’m Lucy – welcome!

A little bit about me as a therapist:

I am someone who will, of course approach our sessions with professionalism, always, but I also enjoy having a chit chat and sometimes even a little joke/laugh/general musing about life :) We are here to work together and take things seriously, but we are also just a couple of people who are meeting and can have a friendly chat! I love getting to know you, what you enjoy in your free time, what kind of hobbies/music/dog you have – and all of the more difficult therapy stuff in between that.

I can help you with the following:

  • Attachment styles
  • Abandonment wounds
  • Low self-esteem
  • Relationship issues and break-ups
  • Being in and staying in unhealthy relationships
  • Lack of focus and direction in life
  • Relationship anxiety
  • Feelings of intense highs and lows
  • Fear and anxiety in work
  • Fear and anxiety in social settings
  • Lack of trust in own thoughts, feelings and decisions
  • University stress and experiences
  • Shame and guilt about prior actions and behaviour

I also specialise in working with Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA) – helping ACoA learn to trust themselves, let people in without fear, and stop carrying a weight that was never yours to hold.

Being an adult child of an alcoholic can feel like or mean:

  • Feeling guilty about everything and anything
  • You struggle with confrontation or authority figures
  • Overthinking a lot of different scenarios and catastrophising
  • Suppressing memories or emotions but knowing you should talk about them
  • Being incredibly confused about loving someone that’s hurt you so much
  • Having a very different experience/reaction to your sibling/siblings
  • Being estranged
  • Feeling like estrangement would be the best thing for you but you are worried, scared or it is not an option
  • Struggle with self-worth because you have been abandoned (literally or figuratively) by your parent
  • Anyone that lies to you is the worst thing they could ever do
  • Trying so hard not to be like that parent that you’ve become anxious and a perfectionist
  • You had to look after yourself a lot so you have become hyper-independent and struggle to say you need others or let others in
  • You’ve walked on eggshells for years

(For info – my Instagram page is about working with ACoA, as opposed to general therapy, as I am creating a community there for other ACoA :)).

By listening, learning about and understanding you I help guide you and gently challenge you.

We work on how you think and feel, and develop an awareness of this and how it impacts daily life.

I then help you build trust in yourself and help with practical tools/ideas to make changes you may want to make.

Process:

  1. Book a free 15 minute introductory call or email me to book a session
  2. You choose out of: 30 minute session (£30 – short, focused), 50 minute session (£50 – your regular slot), 75 minute session (£70 – deep dive)
  3. Sessions thereafter for as long or as little as you like (weekly or fortnightly).

I understand that it can feel daunting and vulnerable to start therapy. With this in mind, I aim to create an environment that feels calm, gentle, professional and friendly :)

People do say I’m good at this! Search Lucy’s Therapy Room (Bristol) to read my Google Reviews.
