Mareike Ringena
My name is Mareike and I am a fully registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist (MA, ADMP UK) and certified Focusing Practitioner (BFA) with over 10 years of experience working across schools, mental health organisations and charities. Originally from Germany, I have been living and practising in Bristol since 2016. I am committed to ongoing professional development, regular supervision and nurturing my own creative practice, so that I can stay grounded, inspired and fully present in the work I offer.
My therapeutic approach is person centred, body oriented and creative. Sometimes words are not enough to express our deeper, more subtle inner experiences. Creative, non verbal forms of expression – such as movement, art and imagery -can offer fresh and meaningful ways to explore what lives inside us.
My approach is grounded in the understanding that our life experiences live in the body. In our work together, we pay attention not only to what you say, but also to how your body holds and expresses your inner world. By engaging directly with these embodied experiences, through movement, sensation, imagery and inner listening, we can access deeper layers of meaning that may sit outside of conscious awareness. Dance Movement Psychotherapy and Focusing offer gentle, effective ways to meet, explore and integrate these parts of your experience.
At the heart of my work is the simple act of being present with another human being. I aim to offer a safe, warm and trusting therapeutic environment where your inner processes can unfold in their own time and in their own unique way.
What I Offer
I offer 1:1 sessions (60 minutes) in Dance Movement Psychotherapy and Focusing.
Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP):
DMP is based on the understanding that body movement reflects inner states of being. Using movement as a form of communication can open pathways into deeper layers of experience, allowing forgotten, non verbal or inexpressible feelings to be met and integrated. Through movement, play, art and imagery, DMP can help you access inner resources, find new perspectives and develop a greater sense of safety and connection within your body.
Focusing:
Focusing is a gentle, natural way of listening to your bodily experience and the deeper wisdom it holds. It helps you relate to your feelings in a fresh way that allows them to shift and bring new insight. Many people know they have feelings, but not how to follow those feelings into the body where real change becomes possible. In our 1:1 sessions, I will guide you through the Focusing process and accompany you as you meet and listen to what is happening inside you.
Online and/or telephone appointments are available.
