Hi my name is Matthew.  I hope I can help resolve what is troubling you. My style is warm and free of judgement. I can either give you the space to talk, or if you would rather not revisit painful memories, or require advice and techniques, there is plenty of useful work we can do. I am experienced working with anxiety, generalised anxiety, depression, shyness and social phobia, relationships, loss,  abuse, betrayal, self-esteem, anger, or if you are simply stuck, or lacking motivation. Healing comes about through insight, understanding and acceptance but also change: if you want something more active and future focused, then I can also offer qualified advice, therapeutic exercises and activities supported by the evidence base. I came to counselling because I found I could help people in this subtle and kind way and that was an opportunity I felt i could not miss. I found the training and theory fascinating – it changed my life. It can be hard finding the right therapist, but it can be rewarding and life-changing. You may wish to have a safe space to explore issues and reflect on patterns, discovering new, more functional ways of relating to your past or present, or you may request practical tools to help you manage mood now and in the future. My techniques are informed by the current evidence base and my years working inside and outside the care industry give me an understanding of the complexities of working and family life. I can meet face to face, by phone or online if preferred. My work is confidential, supervised regularly and I continue to keep informed of new developments and research within the field of mental health.
