Rose Buchanan
Rose Buchanan Psychotherapy & Counselling Counsellor BACP, Psychotherapist UKCP Trainee.
I believe everyone deserves a space where they feel genuinely heard, accepted and understood.
I offer a warm, compassionate and supportive therapeutic relationship where you can explore whatever is troubling you, without fear of judgement. Therapy can provide an opportunity to make sense of your experiences, understand yourself more deeply and recognise patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that may no longer be helpful. We can explore these together at a pace that feels right for you, working towards greater self-understanding, self-acceptance and meaningful change.
Background & How I work – I am a qualified BACP registered counsellor and I have just completed 4 years of training in Relational Transactional Analysis (Advanced Diploma, level 7). I am continuing my training, working towards full UKCP Psychotherapy accreditation. I am an integrative relational practitioner, which means that rather than working from a single therapeutic model, I draw upon different approaches according to what you bring to therapy.
My background and training explore ways of understanding how our earlier experiences in life can influence the beliefs we develop about ourselves and others; the patterns we find ourselves repeating, and the ways we relate to the people around us and our environment in the here and now. Our earliest relationships and experiences can shape how we come to understand ourselves, sometimes leaving lasting imprints, and as adults we may find ourselves needing support to understand the patterns that may have developed. Therapy is collaborative. We can think together about what you would like from our work and regularly reflect on whether our sessions are meeting your needs. There is no expectation that you communicate, process emotions or engage with therapy in a particular way. Above all, I aim to provide a therapeutic space in which you feel safe enough to be yourself and be curious about your experiences.
A neuro affirmative approach – I have a particular passion for working with neurodivergent people and those exploring questions around neurodiversity and identity. Growing up within a neurodiverse family and raising an AuDHD child have given me a personal as well as professional appreciation of the many ways in which people experience and make sense of the world. My approach is neuro affirmative and gender-affirming.
Therapy can offer a space to understand your individual strengths, difficulties and needs, including the impact of living in environments that may not always recognise or accommodate them.
My professional, and lived experiences of autism and ADHD, has also shaped the way I work. I recognise that neurodivergence can bring genuine strengths whilst also, at times, making life considerably more challenging. Therapy does not need to deny either of these realities. You do not need to have a formal diagnosis to work with me. You may already identify as neurodivergent, be questioning whether you might be autistic or have ADHD or simply be looking for a therapist who understands and respects different ways of thinking, communicating and experiencing the world.
