The Sovereign Queen
By Ayaz Angus Landman
The Queen
My Sovereign
Is gone
Quietening the dawn chorus
And dimming the sun
But sovereignty I know
Is not in blood nor limb
Nor an entitlement
But a presence
A radiance
Endowed
From The Beyond
And like the high alter
Safeguarded
By this suffering servant
Awaiting my claim
Waiting for me
Grubby and dishevelled
If necessary
To steal in like a thief
And say
“This Is Mine …because I Am You…”
