I am a psychotherapist and counsellor, providing talking therapy for adults and couples. I aim to provide a safe and confidential space where you can talk about what is troubling you. Together we will start make sense of what you feel. I am a certified Transactional Analyst, which is an approach that explores how and why we relate to ourselves, others and the world as we do, tending to feelings, thoughts and behaviours, and exploring options for change.
I work with adults on issues such as anxiety, depression, compulsive behaviour, recovery from addiction, eating disorders, living with mental health diagnoses or physical illness, bereavement, stress, relationship difficulties, work issues and anger, to name a few of the core areas I cover. I am also a couples and relationship counsellor, for which transactional analysis can be very effective, working on the dynamic between a couple, and exploring what might be getting in the way of a loving intimate relationship and options for change.
My special interest area is peri-natal, working with people around anxiety in pregnancy, birth fear, birth trauma, miscarriage, TFMR, infertility, assisted reproduction, baby loss, post-natal depression, post-natal identity, returning to work, parenting challenges, relationship difficulties after having a baby or baby loss, illness in pregnancy (e.g. hyperemesis gravidarum), recovery from post-partum psychosis, single parenting, divorce and separation as a parent. I also work with both individuals and couples on ambivalence to becoming a parent, having a second child, or deciding not to have children. Most of my peri-natal work is with women, but I am finding more dads are seeking talking therapy to explore the challenges of fatherhood, identity or purpose, birth trauma or bereavement, displacement from partner, overwhelm, work stress, anger, among some of the issues I have encountered. My peri-natal specialism is very helpful in my couples' work, where the stress of birth, illness pre or post birth, parenting conflict, the early years of parenthood or baby loss have destabilised a previously functioning relationship. I want to welcome all kinds of parents, including bereaved parents and parents-in-waiting, to my practice regardless of race, gender, sexuality, religion, but if you don't feel I'm the right fit for you, I am in a network of peri-natal psychotherapists and counsellors, and hope to be able to connect you with someone if I'm not quite right, so do reach out.
