I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC. I am also a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society.
I have over 20 years experience working in both the NHS and private practice. My variety of experience means that I am highly skilled in a wide range of psychological models and techniques. I use an evidence based approach to work with individuals presenting with a diversity of psychological issues. These include but are not limited to low mood/ depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, self-worth, relationship difficulties, bereavement, work related stress and health psychology. I feel passionate about supporting individuals on their journey towards increasing their quality of life and reaching their best potential. My philosophical approach is that each client is unique with individual needs and therefore requires a personalized plan to suit their specific requirements. In accordance with this, my approach is largely integrative (combining different therapies and tools to create a tailored approach) including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), interpersonal therapy (IPT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). I am also trained and experienced in EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing) a psychotherapeutic approach used to help alleviate the emotional and psychological distress associated with traumatic memories.
I have a special interest in providing psychological therapy to individuals who are struggling to cope with physical health conditions. In particular, I have great enthusiasm for working in the challenging area of chronic pain.
My area of research for my doctorate degree was on coping with chronic physical health conditions. My first post in the NHS was working with adults presenting with moderate to severe psychological issues, such as anxiety and depression. Alongside this work, there was an emphasis on working with clients experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. I also maintained a special interest in the area of Physical Health. As well as providing a consultation service for GPs, I co-led groups in cardiac rehabilitation and pain management, as well as anxiety, depression and self-injury.
In 2006, I began working for a private practice based in London alongside my NHS work. In 2008 I began working for a private multidisciplinary clinic in Norwich. During that time, I was seconded to the NHS as the clinical psychologist for the Pain Management Clinic. I also began to work as an Expert Clinical Psychologist in legal proceedings. My experience means that I have been involved in supervising health care professionals, including psychologists, medical and nursing staff. I have also provided lectures to undergraduates and postgraduates at the University of East London and the University of East Anglia.
I am registered with the Health Professions Council (www.hcpc-uk.co.uk) and am a member of the British Psychological Society (www.bps.org.uk). I comply with their registration requirements for psychologists regarding supervision and ongoing professional development, and adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I keep confidential case-notes in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation, May 2018.
