For many, seeking psychological support is a courageous step. As such, Carly works in a warm and emphatic way to put the client at ease and feel safe to develop a strong therapeutic relationship. She works collaboratively to help people get a better handle on difficult thoughts and feelings as well as making steps towards living a life that matters, feels rich and is fulfilling again.
Carly works using evidence-based approaches, which means they have been proven to have a significant beneficial effect on a person's well-being. While fully qualified and accredited in the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), she also draws on therapeutic approaches including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) compassion focused therapy (CFT) and mindfulness techniques as she acknowledges that everyone is different and will need a different mix of approaches to meet their individual needs. Carly is also trained to offer eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) for the treatment of trauma symptoms.
Carly has over 15 years of experience working alongside others experiencing distress and has developed expertise in working with a range of difficulties that any of us can encounter over the course of a lifetime. This might involve depression, anxiety (including panic, phobias, social anxiety and health anxiety), work related difficulties, sleep difficulties, and post traumatic stress disorder.
Carly has a particular interest in the field of clinical health psychology, which focuses on helping people to overcome psychological difficulties associated with physical health problems. Carly also has specialist skills in helping others who experience distress around a visible difference. That might be a change in appearance born out of a medical or congenital condition, (i.e. alopecia, vitiligo, acne or gynecomastia etc); surgical or medical procedures (scarring, or changes in appearance due to cancer treatments); or changes in appearance due to life experiences (for example car accidents or self harm).
Carly is an experienced and highly skilled clinical psychologist. She is accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies and is registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council. Carly has worked in a number of NHS settings involving clients ranging from children through to older adults.
