Dr Carolyn Cowey is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, trained in academic psychology and applied psychology, and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She is, in addition, a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, and an Oxford Mindfulness Centre trained Mindfulness teacher.
She holds two doctorates (Ph.D.s), the first in neuropsychology from the Institute of Psychiatry, University of London and the second in clinical psychology from the University of Birmingham. She took her B.Sc. in Psychology at the University of London. In addition, Dr Cowey holds the Oxford Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from the University of Oxford, which constitutes advanced training in cognitive therapy.
Carolyn has over 22 years experience as a therapist and psychologist working in the NHS. She has published in the professional journal, Memory and in the edited collection: The Oxford Guide to Behavioural Experiments in Cognitive Therapy edited by James Bennett-Levy, Gillian Butler, Melanie Fennell, Ann Hackman, Martina Mueller and David Westbrook (Oxford University Press, 2004).
Dr Cowey offers CBT for the treatment of adult mental health problems including: depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, generalised anxiety, panic attacks, difficulties managing anger, phobias, eating disorders and PTSD. She is additionally trained in other psychotherapeutic approaches such as psychodynamic psychotherapy and couple therapy. She also offers one-to-one Mindfulness sessions.
Dr Cowey is now offering online sessions. In-person sessions Mondays & Tuesdays.
