Eleanor Catherine - Psychotherapy
Welcome
Sometimes we all need someone to talk things over with, in confidence and without judgement. Feeling witnessed and supported by another person can make it possible to bring more kindness to ourselves and to take positive but challenging steps that we couldn't manage alone. Therapy gives us a dedicated space that friends and family may not always be able to offer, to explore how to work with areas such as: Stress and burnout Low mood, Bereavement or loss, Relationship issues, Career and life changes, Anxiety, Anger, Challenges in creative or spiritual life.
WHY THERAPY?
By working with a therapist we can develop greater acceptance and self-care. A therapist can encourage us to bring kind awareness to limiting self-beliefs and help us access our potential to live in more satisfying ways. I believe that it's through awareness and kindness that change and growth are possible. I see therapy as a collaborative process, where we build a shared basis of trust, respect and safety. Within this atmosphere of care, you can develop confidence in yourself and find the inner wisdom needed to face difficulty. The term 'psychotherapy' could be translated as soul-care, and my own path has included a spiritual dimension, exploring dreams, imagination and archetypes. I don't see this as necessary for everyone, but it forms the background of my therapeutic work.
ABOUT ME As well as working as a botanical artist, I have been practicing Buddhism for 30 years. I am inspired and challenged by the Buddhist teaching that we are all interconnected, so my work as a therapist feels like a natural extension of my desire to understand myself and to connect more deeply with others. I am a senior student in Core Process psychotherapy, which fuses modern psychological understanding with the time-honoured practice of deep mindfulness. This form of therapy includes the idea that we have a fundamental 'core' of basic goodness and well-being that can never be lost, even in the midst of difficulty and suffering.
CONTACT, LOCATION AND FEES As a trainee therapist I can offer a confidential and empathic space where it's possible to address challenging life issues. We can work together over a shorter or longer term course of weekly, one-hour sessions, to find authentic and compassionate ways forward. It's important that you find a therapist who you feel comfortable to work with, so I offer a free, no obligation, first session of 45 minutes. After this I charge £35 per hour. If you wish to continue we can set up six sessions and then review how it's going. I am working online at present, which means you will need to have a quiet, private place with internet access for each session. However I intend to move to face to face sessions when it's safe to do so: from April onwards I hope to be working at The Practice Rooms, Oxford..
