Dr Hamilton Fairfax is a highly experienced Consultant Counselling Psychologist who has spent 25 years working in NHS Mental Health services. He works with adults of working age and older adults. His core training was in the main schools of psychotherapy – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Humanistic. He has additional training in Mindfulness, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). He integrates these models to provide a personalised therapeutic intervention based on the client's needs. He practices both individual and group therapy. Hamilton is experienced in a range of mental health presentations including complex trauma, OCD, depression, anxiety, complex emotional needs, abusive life experiences and existential crisis. He has researched and published in many of these areas. Hamilton also has significant experience in leadership and organisational change and undertaken further training in Leadership and Management.
Hamilton's therapeutic approach is both collaborative and person centred, ensuring clients feel safe and supported even when discussing very distressing experiences. Sessions start with an assessment to establish an initial psychological formulation. This is a process through which the possible causes of the problem are identified, how they are maintained and how they can be helped, resulting in a treatment plan with clear therapeutic goals. Psychological formulations are co-created with the client, revised, reviewed and updated throughout the process of therapy.
