Hi, my name is Jac (she/her). I am a queer, person centred counsellor, offering trauma informed counselling in Leeds, online and by telephone. My practice is safe and affirming for all LGBTQIA+ people, neurodiversity, sex workers, polyamory and kink.
My fees are £50 as standard and £40 reduced fee for those who need it.
Some of the topics I work with are trauma, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, exploring gender or sexuality, bereavement and grief.
Sessions can be a safe place for you to talk about your thoughts, feelings and experiences or work through and heal from traumatic memories and events. We can also work together to help you develop coping skills and grounding techniques that can allow you to feel more in control and able to be in the present.
Client testimony: "I will not forget what you've helped me to achieve and the person I knew I was! Thank you!"
Trauma recovery: I use the phased approach to working with trauma. This starts with an emphasis on establishing safety and stability. Making sure you have the skills and techniques you need to stop the emotions becoming intolerable. When you feel safe and ready we will start to work on reprocessing the traumatic memories so that they become less harmful and overwhelming. The final phase of the work would be looking at your goals and dreams, working on any leftover negative beliefs or feelings and maybe dealing with things you've had to side line while you were in survival mode.
Is counselling right for me? I strongly believe counselling can help anyone. Exactly how that will look varies greatly from person to person. You may only need a short amount of sessions to work through a stressful time in your life or you might be looking for longer term counselling to work through past events and how they are affecting you now. You may have experienced moments in your life that have left you feeling helpless, overwhelmed or doubting your own ability. Through counselling we can work to create a sense of empowerment and build your self esteem. Putting you back in touch with who you are and the amazing things you're capable of.
Where I work: I work in person at The Practice Rooms in Leeds city centre. I also offer online sessions via Microsoft teams and telephone sessions.
Accessibility and Covid: The Practice Rooms have two steps to the front door. There are rooms on the ground floor we can have the sessions in, however the toilets are upstairs.
The counselling rooms I work in are spacious and allow plenty of room for social distancing. The windows open and I try to air the rooms between clients. I can keep a window open during our session if you'd prefer. There is no waiting room so you would be unlikely to come into contact with anyone but me during your visit.
Neurodiversity: I'm dyslexic myself so I know a little bit about having a brain that works in a different way to what is generally expected of it. I also have an awareness of different types of neurodiversity and have worked with many neurodiverse clients. I Because of my approach to counselling it is easy to adapt to each individual and this has worked well for neurodiverse clients I've worked with in the past. If you have any specific concerns or feel you'd need any accommodations please talk to me about that.
Online and/or telephone appointments are also available.
