I am a UKCP-registered psychotherapist in training offering affordable one-on-one sessions in central Bristol. I offer a warm, non-judgmental space where we can work together to help you feel better and enjoy your own life more.
In our sessions, we'll start from whatever's preoccupying you right now. My aim is to understand and help you to explore whatever thoughts and feelings you bring to share. Over time, we may go into memories from your past and visions of your future. If you have a religious or spiritual orientation, that could also play a role. You might want to discuss your dreams or experiment with drawings or story-telling. Therapy is a place for healing and finding safety, but it can also be a place for creativity. There will always be space for your feedback about the process.
Among the issues with which I have experience are trauma and its consequences; gender, sexuality, and identity; struggles with work, aging, or relationships; loss, anger, and grief; fears about losing yourself, not trusting yourself, or not having a self; intrusive thoughts and compulsive behavior; spiritual crisis; and problems relating to body, eating, or intimacy. Depression and anxiety may be connected to any and all of these. If you have a diagnosis, that can be part of our conversations as well.
I completed the Foundation Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling and am currently pursuing the MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. As part of this training, from October 2020 to November 2022 I had the privilege of working at the Harbour, a charity that provides counselling for people facing bereavement or dying. I also have a career in teaching and research at the University of Bristol. For more sixteen years, I've worked alongside young people as we learn about the human condition through literature, mythology, philosophy, and art. Part of my research concerns the history of mental health care, and in this role I contribute to the continuing education programmes in the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.
Sessions last for fifty minutes. The first session costs £10 and gives you an opportunity to share what brings you to therapy and what you hope to get from it. It also lets us both get a feeling for how it would be for us to work together. Thereafter, sessions usually cost £35. (A reduced rate may be available if you cannot afford the full cost.) Please get in touch by email or by using the contact form if you have any questions or would like to meet.
