About me
Hi, I’m Laura and I’m a Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Therapist and mental health nurse with around 15 years' experience in mental healthcare, CBT and counselling. I have worked within the NHS, including significant experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Teams, inpatient wards, community teams, University counselling services, the voluntary and private sectors, including for insurance companies.
The people I deliver therapy to have described me as kind, compassionate, non-judgmental and empathetic. I enjoy working with people to create positive and meaningful changes that they are able to maintain after therapy.
Outside of work, I am an avid yoga practitioner, I love walking, reading and spending time with my family.
Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective, evidence-based therapy that can be helpful for many people who are struggling with mental health difficulties.
CBT can help to identify the unhelpful cycles that we can sometimes get into with our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and begin to challenge and change these, in order to create a significant improvement in quality of life. The therapy will be unique to you and adapted to your needs and differences.
I support and work with adults and children who may be struggling with:
- Anxiety (including generalised anxiety disorder, health anxiety, social anxiety)
- Depression and low mood
- OCD
- phobias
- low self-esteem
- perfectionism,
- body image difficulties and body dysmorphia,
- stress,
- panic disorder and panic attacks,
- trauma
- sleep difficulties
- I am also experienced in delivering parent-led CBT for parents of children suffering from mental health difficulties.
I am registered with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Testimonials
- I have suffered with anxiety for over 40 years without any strategies to manage it - with the support I have received I feel I am capable of moving forward on my own.
- Thank you for helping me find the joy again. I feel I have been in the dark for so long and you have helped me step back into the sunshine. I will always be grateful.
- Thank you for your compassionate, wise and kind listening over these recent weeks. Venting all those family stories has helped me a great deal. I shall know where to come should my concerns build up again. I am most grateful for your help.
- I am incredibly grateful for the help I've received from Laura. Taking the step to address my health anxieties was not easy and I put it off for a few years despite encouragement from family, but Laura's friendly and professional approach certainly helped overcome any initial concerns. Her guidance not only helped me learn methods and ways to help with my health concerns but also provided insight into other aspects of my life which were causing me stress and anxiety. I would highly recommend Laura for her expertise and approach but also CBT in general, it’s definitely helped me look at things from a different perspective and start to challenge negative thoughts before they become overwhelming.
- I had a series of CBT sessions with Laura to help me to overcome a long standing phobia of lifts. Laura helped me to understand my phobia and gave me useful tools to help me to overcome my anxiety. The sessions were practical and goal orientated, which allowed me to make good progress. Working with Laura really helped me to overcome my fear and reduce my anxiety around using lifts. With her guidance I was able to achieve my goal much quicker than I had envisioned. I would really recommend Laura as a CBT therapist and am very thankful for her support.
