I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist specialising in the treatment of sleep problems, insomnia and associated psychological difficulties.
I understand how exhausting it can be when poor sleep is an obstacle to living a rich and fulfilling life. Sleep problems can negatively impact our mood, thoughts and behaviour, often leading to difficulties in the workplace and within relationships. Our ability to manage stress is compromised, and immune functions and physical health can be affected. Attempts to 'get a hold on sleep', to escape through sleep or to avoid sleep, all add further emotional struggle and exhaustion.
However, it is possible to develop an easier and more reliable relationship with sleep. I provide therapy for children, young people, and adults who struggle with sleep and associated psychological difficulties. I help clients to make sense of their own unique relationship and history with sleep, and to bring about change through the alignment of body and mind. From there, the 'sweet spot' for sleep can settle in, without effort or intention.
I work with clients experiencing persistent sleep problems associated with: stress (e.g. work-life balance), adjustment to life events, mental health difficulties (e.g.anxiety, depression, trauma), physical health difficulties (e.g. pain, illness), parenthood (incl. impact of infant sleep), relationship and interpersonal issues.
To meet individual client needs, my approach extends traditional cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia(CBT-I), incorporating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and attachment-informed therapy.
