I'm Louise, a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years' experience working in the NHS with children, young people and parents. At your initial appointment, I will offer a friendly and welcoming space to think about what is troubling you or your family and explore what you hope to achieve through therapy. During subsequent appointments, we will work together in partnership, drawing on your expertise about your family, and my knowledge and practical experience of a range of different evidence-based psychological therapies to reach these goals. Sessions may involve working individually with children, young people or parents, or family work. I’m particularly interested in how our own experiences of childhood influence us as adults, often in the context of thinking about how we want to be as parents ourselves.
With so many different types of therapy and therapists to choose from, finding a psychologist can feel overwhelming and confusing. In the first instance I will arrange a short telephone consultation; this gives me a chance to find out a little more about what you are looking for and you an opportunity to ask any questions. This can help us both decide if we are ‘a good fit’ and then arrange an initial appointment as needed. I prefer to work face to face, in-person and can offer an appointment during my private clinic on a Monday.
I also hold a research post at the University of Oxford; my work includes a focus on how we can communicate effectively with children about serious illness and the ways communities can support infants' and children's early social, emotional and cognitive development.
