Hello and welcome!
I am Mel, an experienced Integrative Counselor registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I offer a confidential and compassionate space where you will be listened to attentively and met with kind curiosity and care.
Underpinning my therapy practice is my value of and engagement with the ethical standards set by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy, both of which I am a member. I support myself in my therapeutic endeavours with weekly supervision and my own individual therapeutic process. I continue to develop as a therapist and am completing my MA with an original research thesis on complex bereavement.
As an Integrative Counselor I use my expertise and skill in a range of different psycho-therapeutic traditions to explore and support you with your difficulties. I give thoughtful attention to your individuality and tailor the therapy to be as beneficial to you as possible. One of my intentions with clients is to shine a light on aspects of themselves, their lives and relationships that are unclear, messy, or difficult. I often think with clients about the different parts of themselves, how these interact and the impact this has on the whole of them. This can enable helpful reflection of their relationship with themselves and others in the past and present. Learning about ourselves is key to changing areas of our lives we are unhappy or dissatisfied with.
I explore with clients their social and cultural contexts and experiences of this in their lives, both the joy and difficulties. I understand that discrimination of all kinds impacts many people, and this impacts holistic health. My practice also has a philosophical expression that explores how we make meaning in our lives and acknowledges the struggles and joy this can create. I also offer in my work with clients some alternative ways of interacting with their own distress and loss.

I trained at The Minster Centre in London, a pioneering and well-respected College www.minstercentre.ac.uk/about/. I am an experienced registered nurse and health visitor and, as such, have vast experience working with all age groups with both short and long-term physical and mental health needs.
