People who reach out for CBT might be experiencing difficulties with worry, negative self-talk or confidence. They may have noticed a change in their behaviours such as checking things more or avoiding certain situations. Some people describe it as vicious cycle. Whether this has been going on for a while or something new, we work together to understand what your unhelpful cycles look like and how we can break them. This might be by creating healthier habits in line with your values, noticing and challenging patterns of unhelpful thinking by focusing on your strengths or practising relaxation techniques. This in turn can change how you feel, and helps us be better equipped to manage difficult emotions. CBT is based on a wealth of evidence and is recommended by the NHS to treat low mood and anxiety.
My experience in mental health spans over 13 years, initially working in secondary care psychiatric hospitals, before primary care settings such as the NHS, charitable sectors and universities. To ensure your safety, I follow evidence-based interventions and the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines. I am also fully accredited with the BABCP and hold an enhanced DBS check. In addition to my CBT practice, I am currently training on the Counselling Psychology Doctorate, so my delivery of CBT may be sprinkled with a person-centred ethos!
Some of the difficulties I work with include:
What happens now? It can be daunting seeking out support - you've taken a big step to even search for a therapist. People find it works best to have a free 15 minute telephone consultation to talk about your problem and to make sure we're a good fit for each other. I will also offer my honest and professional opinion as to whether I think CBT would be useful. Following this we would arrange an initial assessment so I can understand more about your difficulties and we can set goals for therapy.
Appointments last for 50 minutes.
