Life is challenging in a whole host of ways. Perhaps you are experiencing self-doubt, emotional pain, a feeling of stuckness, or of life not being what you had hoped. You might be trying to meet these feelings in a variety of ways - through behaviour patterns, relationships, substances, or work, for example. Maybe you simply want to find out more about yourself and the inner mechanisms causing you to respond to life in the way that you do. Counselling can help with this process.
I offer a warm, empathic and judgement-free relationship in which we will collaboratively work through what has brought you to counselling. Therapy fundamentally offers a relationship in which you are held with compassion and acceptance, and so can have increased compassion and acceptance for yourself. Through this, you can gently transform your life.
It can be a difficult process, which I will support you through in our sessions. You can't 'get it wrong'.
As a qualified Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor I believe that you, the client, have autonomy, and a natural inclination towards growth and healing. I will facilitate and support you to lead the work since you are the expert on yourself, nothing that you bring is irrelevant. I am also interested in your past as it can give many clues as to what's going on for you in the present.
I'm not a purist and draw on several modes of working, underpinned by the Person-Centred and Psychotherapeutic models. I believe that our bodies hold information about the truth of our experiences, and so will ask you at times to be aware of your body and your relationship to it. I will also offer relevant bits of psychotherapeutic theory if I feel it will help you to understand some part of yourself, and empower you towards change.
