As an experienced CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) Systemic Family Psychotherapist, and Clinical Supervisor, I am passionate about working with children, young people and their families supporting them to improve their mental health. I have a particular interest and experience in working with Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating difficulties. I am trained to run Multi-Family Therapy Groups for those living with Anorexia Nervosa.
As a Family Therapist, I have worked with a wide range of mental health difficulties, including working with attachment difficulties,depression, anxiety, self harm, emotional regulation and difficulties arising from trauma. I have significant experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams, with a diverse range of professionals that might be involved in your care. I have previously managed a Family Intervention Service for children with complex disabilities and life limiting conditions. Prior to that I worked within the field of Acquired Brain Injuries, and I have a good understanding of the challenges that may arise from physical health difficulties.
I have a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Clinical & Health Psychology. I completed my four year Systemic Family Psychotherapy Training through the University of Plymouth (Foundation & Intermediate level), and the University of Exeter (MSc qualifying level training) During this time I worked both in a psychosis clinic within Adult Mental Health, and an Attachment Narrative Therapy Clinic within CAMHS. I currently work at the University of Exeter as a Lecturer on the Youth Intensive Psychological Practitioner Post Graduate Certificate programme. This involves training students nationally to work in psychiatric inpatient services and home treatment/crisis services for children and young people experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties.
I am also a Senior Lecturer/Academic Lead for the Systemic Family Practice Post Graduate Diploma Programme. This trains CAMHS clinicians in evidence based approaches to eating disorders, depression, self harm and conduct disorders. I am an experienced Clinical Supervisor, within the NHS,Local Authority and Voluntary sectors. I hold a Masters in Clinical Supervision with a particular interest in vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue. Prior to this, I completed an Advanced Diploma in Clinical Supervision & Mentoring as well as undertaking the NSPCC's specialist Child Protection Supervisor training.
With 18 years experience of working across the voluntary sector, local authority and NHS services, I have a good understanding of the challenges that arise for people in their working environments. I have held a range of senior management and leadership roles during that time, and completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Integrated Leadership in 2010. I am confident in, and trained to work with all ages, as well as with individuals, families,couples and groups. It is a privilege to be in a position to support families and individuals in finding the tools and resources that can support them to improve their mental health, enhance their well-being and understand their lived experiences.
