Find out where your tiredness, brain fog, pain, gut problems and other symptoms are coming from, and be supported step by step to get your energy back and enjoy life again.
Never recovered from a virus or period of stress in your life? Blood tests normal, but you still have multiple symptoms? Or maybe your health has just gone downhill and you'd like to change direction? I will work with you to create a personalised step-by-step plan and support you to get your health back on track, freeing you from struggling to solve your health issues alone.
My name is Sarah, and I am a BANT registered nutritional therapist trained in the functional medicine approach, and with a master's degree specialising in fatigue conditions.
Clients come to me to address the root causes of their symptoms. I will coordinate with your GP and specialist to help "mind the gaps" in your care, and even if NHS tests have come back as "normal", I can investigate in greater depth and provide options not currently available within the NHS.
What is Nutritional and Lifestyle Therapy? Nutritional therapy is an evidence-based, holistic, complementary form of healthcare. Nutritional therapy professionals are overseen by the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).
So what is special about a functional nutritionist? Functional medicine seeks to determine how and why illness occurs and restore health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual. Nutritional therapists are trained in using a functional medicine approach. Some, like me, have taken additional training with the US Institute for Functional Medicine. Some medical doctors also have additional training in functional medicine. As doctors, they are qualified to diagnose disease, and they use diet, lifestyle, nutraceuticals, hormones, and medical drugs.
I am a nutritionist who uses a functional medicine approach. Unlike a doctor, I am not qualified to diagnose disease, though I can carry out standard blood tests as well as functional medicine tests, which may reveal the root causes of symptoms. I use diet, lifestyle and nutraceuticals (e.g., essential fats, vitamins, minerals, herbs and spices) to support healing. I take a "food first" approach, and I cannot provide hormones or pharmaceutical drugs. However, I can refer you to a functional medicine doctor where appropriate, or simply liaise with your GP – obviously the cheaper option. If you have any "red flag" symptoms or test results, I will, with your permission, write to your GP stating my concerns.
I believe functional medicine is the future of medicine for many chronic diseases. A growing number of UK GPs are trained in functional medicine. However, unless you're fortunate enough to have one as your GP, this is an expensive option. A functional nutritionist is a great alternative. We practise using functional medicine principles, are more affordable and are also trained to coach you to make changes.
