I offer therapy for adults experiencing a trauma response, low mood, work-related stress, bereavement, anxiety, difficulties associated with neurodivergence or a general feeling of being overwhelmed. I also work with people who feel ok but would like to understand themselves better or to improve their relationships.
I have a particular interest in how transitions and role changes can affect our equilibrium, and how readily our roles can enhance or deplete our emotional and physical wellbeing. Roles might include paid employment or unpaid work such as parenting or caring for others. Distress can be related to losses and changes, too many demands, too little support, lack of control, issues around identity, feeling as though you can’t meet others’ expectations, or difficulties balancing health, work and personal life.
Over the years, I have become more interested in how neurodivergence can both contribute to, and help with, life’s challenges, and I have undertaken specialist training in this area. I am able to undertake comprehensive ADHD assessments and follow up sessions for adults. I do not subscribe to the deficit model of neurodivergence, and am proud to offer a neurodiversity-affirming approach to therapy.
My work is informed by different therapeutic approaches including compassion focused therapy (CFT), psychodynamic, systemic, narrative, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and eco-sensory therapy. I am strongly influenced by attachment theory. Understanding relationships – with others and with ourselves – is at the heart of what I do.
Please feel free to contact me to arrange a free 15 minute phone call or email exchange, or to book a first session.
Many thanks,
Abbie
