Hello, I'm Sheila. I'm a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years' experience working as a therapist in the NHS with people of all ages with a diverse range of problems and from a variety of backgrounds. I have particular expertise in issues of later life including depression and anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief/bereavement, loss and adjustment to illness, carer burden, living with dementia and other life limiting conditions.
I continue to work part-time in the NHS as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of Service specialising in older people's mental health. I have a long-standing interest in trauma, complex trauma and dissociative disorders, post-traumatic growth and resilience. This started when I began my psychology training in South Africa, where I worked as a volunteer supporting children in poverty orphaned by HIV/AIDS and as a volunteer trauma counsellor with the police service, offering psychological support to victims of violent crime and their families.
I draw on a range of different therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), systemic therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and have post-doctoral training in Clinical Neuropsychology.
I offer a warm and compassionate thinking and healing environment where together we can begin to make sense of what is causing and maintaining your distress.
Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a free no obligation 15 minute conversation where we can discuss the difficulties you are currently experiencing and whether I may be able to help.
