I'm a skillful and compassionate therapist who is warm and down to earth. I help people who are experiencing difficulties as a result of emotional distress and trauma to reclaim happier and more meaningful lives. I have worked both in NHS primary care and private practice in Bristol.
The coping strategies and defense mechanisms we develop in our childhood very often continue into our adult lives, where they can cease to be effective. Whilst many of us learn to cope with difficult feelings in the background, big life events such as loss, relationship breakdown, financial pressure or parenthood, can quickly bring them to the surface. We can become stuck in negative patterns, leaving us overwhelmed with symptoms like anxiety and depression. Having an opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings within a safe and therapeutic setting can lead to the emergence of new understanding, allowing us to renegotiate our relationships to ourselves, our personal histories and the people in our lives.
My way of working is principally relational and person-centred. This means that the most relevant insights and solutions emerge from you and your lived experience. Within an atmosphere of trust, safety and support you can recognise unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour, process underlying emotion, and work towards a more satisfying way of living.
