About Breathwork
Trauma is not just held in the mind but it is also stored in the body. Unlike traditional talk therapies, breathwork focuses on reconnecting you with your body to release trauma. Somatic practices such as breathwork help release emotions and create emotional resilience.
The practice of breathwork can be traced back thousands of years. It has origins in Eastern practices such as Hinduism, Taoism and Buddhism. It also has roots in South American, African and Australian practices.
Breathwork is an umbrella term for bringing focus to your breath. You breathe in rhythmic patterns for certain periods of time. Sometimes, breathwork is set to music. It can be a gentle inhale and exhale in and out through your nose. Or more active breathing in and out through your mouth.
Within a session you may use different types of breathing, such as:
Conscious Connected, focusing on a 2 part breath in and out through the mouth.
Transformative, focusing on a 3 part breath, breathing into the belly, the chest and out through the mouth.
Depending on the clients needs these breathing techniques might be altered.
What does it treat?
A one-to-one session is designed to help relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress and overwhelm. By the end of the session, you’ll feel centred, blissful and happy. You will have increased self-worth, self-love and self-trust. You’ll learn to understand yourself and others whilst creating a deeper sense of self-forgiveness. You’ll connect with your gut instinct/intuition making it easier to make decisions. You’ll notice you sleep deeper the day or a few days after your journey. Most importantly you’ll feel reconnected with yourself and your body.
During a one-to-one session, you will physically be aiding your body as well as your mind. You will be relieving symptoms of chronic pain. You will be regulating your nervous system. This means you will be creating a higher tolerance to stress whilst your body learns how to enter into a rested state. You will be aiding digestion and easing symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn. You will be helping your body to balance its pH Levels. You will naturally learn how to breathe in a more regulated way.
