Massage: Tuina

  • Holistic Therapy
  • Available at 1 centre
  • 1 therapist available

Tuina (Chinese massage) is another part of the traditional medicine of China, and follows the same principles as acupuncture. The word can be translated as ‘to push, lift and squeeze’, and techniques range from very subtle and relaxing, to fairly deep manipulation of muscles, with the aim of smoothing and rebalancing the body on all levels. Treatment can cover the whole body, with a focus on certain areas and acupuncture points depending on the situation.  The treatment is usually carried out through clothing.

What to expect

At your first consultation, you will be asked detailed questions about yourself and your condition. When necessary, your pulses will be taken on both wrists, your tongue will be examined, and the affected area of the body may be palpated before coming to a traditional diagnosis.

The treatment consists of Chinese massage working on the whole body, with a focus on certain areas and acupuncture points. Most of the techniques are very gentle, with the aim of smoothing and rebalancing the body on all levels.  You may also be offered diet and lifestyle advice.
Before treatment it is best not to have eaten a heavy meal and you should avoid alcohol and coffee and also foods which might colour your tongue. It is preferable if you wear loose cotton clothing.
