When we look at the causes of say I.B.S, backache or catching colds; it’s often revealed that we’ve been under stress for a while. We live in a fast-paced culture and have very full lives. Sometimes our bodies simply don’t have enough energy for what we give them to do. This can mean that we run on adrenalised “high energy” that will eventually “burn out” or that we find ourselves pushing through inertia to the next task and exhausted as soon as we sit down in the evenings. This exhaustion and pushing ourselves to keep going beyond our energy reserves creates stress.
Stress Related Ailments
Early symptoms of stress are restlessness, anxiety, insomnia, headaches or pain anywhere in the body. Left unchecked over time stress can lead to more serious symptoms and eventually to the diseases we find all around us e.g arthritis, cancer, ulcers, heart disease, pneumonia.
Releasing Stress
Managing your energy and releasing stress has never been easier. It’s all about slotting in a couple of exercises into your daily routine. There are now thousands of holistic apps on the market to get you started. Find the ones you love and enjoy their effects. You may manage 10 mins or an hour. Remember it’s all accumulative which means every de-stressing second counts!! Just 10 mins each day will make all the difference to how you feel and to the energy available to you.
5 Tips to get you started
1. Make space for yourself; create an evening every week just for you. Put your feet up, have a warming herb tea infusion, run a long hot bath and soak.
2. Find your personal de-stress technique and make it a part of your daily life. This can be anything from an hour in the gym, a 20 min meditation, a walk around the block or lying on the floor with your feet up the wall. Find a way to relax the mind and body and create the vibrant health that you’re longing for.
3. Detox. Make sure that your body has what it needs to “clean house” and re-generate. Eat lots of green vegetables or take green vegetable juices. Eat quality foods and drink plenty of water. It’s important to have treats and eat the foods that you love whilst maintaining your health through a diet full of nutritional food.
4. Have regular therapy: No matter how often; weekly, fortnightly, monthly, seasonally;your body will prepare for the session and happily release stress for you through the support and the bodywork that you receive.
5. Rest is an essential component to bringing our bodies back to a place of equilibrium. Lie on the sofa with a good book or some sweet music. Watch an uplifting film, play a meditation or relaxation CD. Let the body be still and you will begin to notice how your energy recovers.
