Taking care

  • 16/12/2022
  • Self Care , Stress

In this season of frivolity, Lenny Marlow who practises homoeopathy at our Greenwich centre, reflects on the past couple of years, and reminds us that it is also a season of vulnerability, nostalgia and change. Take time to go gently with yourself this Christmas…

At this time of year, when asked for ‘festive advice’, I normally talk about NUX-VOMICA 30 as the party remedy, taken for much of that overindulgence we might experience at Christmas! Taken either before or the morning after it really helps.

But, I feel the close of this year will be very different from any other that I, and many of us, will have experienced in our lifetime.

The change of head of state has to be a time of mourning and self-reflection as well as looking towards joy and hope for the future. Since before Covid, it has been clear working with my clients that everyone is in the process of great change, looking back and looking forward.

Covid has taken us back to things we had not fixed. For some of that seems to be the emotional result of two years of Covid and restrictions. For others it is the return of earlier health problems (often showing as long Covid) or the fallout of a traumatic experience in the past that has resurfaced, or this “return” maybe those things we could have done better, those choices we declined.

We all have to make our own personal journey through all of this, we have to take the risk that will make a difference. We will need to be supported. For some that may be a closer level of spiritual devotion. For many, it is time to look to mind-body therapies, those therapies that observe subtle energies.

My own practice has seen many clients coming back after a gap of many years and with a wide range of returning symptoms. Sudden relapses of mental health issues for some, what seems like “the end of the road” in a relationship for others.

While much of this is a phase of resolution and change, there is also an increase in “new life”; couples investing in new babies, new jobs, new homes. Many families in search of a simpler lifestyle, one that is greener and more in harmony with the natural world.

However bleak your problems are, remember that everyone is having their own chaotic journey. Do reach out and find those that can work with you through your journey, the current energies out there make all change possible – go for it.
