Shiatsu is a gentle yet powerful form of body work that originated in Japan and is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its name means ‘finger pressure’ in Japanese, and Shiatsu uses finger and palm pressure, stretches and joint rotations to release tensions and rebalance your body, bringing it into flow and promoting its own healing abilities. As Shiatsu is a holistic practice, focusing on the connection between mind, body and soul, it helps to promote physical, emotional and psychological healing. People come to Shiatsu for a lot of different conditions, including: anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, chronic pain, sciatica, menstrual cycle irregularities, PMS, menopausal symptoms, general feeling of overwhelm or being somehow ‘out of place’.
Sei-Ki is the way of touch. It is an intuitive touch therapy that was developed out of Shiatsu by Akinobo Kishi. Like shiatsu, sei-ki aims to shift your body into healing mode through touch. The difference is that in a sei-ki session, I’ll concentrate on just a few areas for longer periods. Your body and breathing tell me how your ki is flowing, so I can identify the spaces where the energy feels stuck or distorted, and I then stay in these spaces using skilled touch to shift and release it. Sei-ki is a deeply still and soothing practice that can bring about potent changes in your life. It can support your wellbeing in similar ways to shiatsu, and can help you shed what doesn’t serve so that your true, authentic self can shine.
