Nina Galley from our Oxford centre reminds any woman who is going through perimenopause that they are not alone, and that help, support and guidance are there if you're ready to ask for them.?
At times, this journey can feel lonely. Isolated from the usual flow of life, looking through the windows while outside everything else carries on. Everyone else carries on
Maybe you’re awake in the early hours of darkness desperately wanting it to be light just to be able to get up and stop TRYING to sleep. But also, you desperately need sleep.
The next day feels like wading through thick mud, against strong winds. At work, you can’t even recall the name of the person standing in front of you, the colleague whose face is recognisable but whose name has disappeared.
Crying at everything, and at nothing. Experiencing the red mist of rage descending, unleashed at anyone or anything. The smallest triggers seem to crack you in half.
And you’re scared a lot of the time. Feeling the insurmountable fear at the thought of doing something that you used to find so easy. The fear of not knowing what is happening to you.
Menopause can feel like a very, very lonely place. It can feel as though you're the only one having the experience.
But - if you feel like this
- and I feel like this
then, already, we are not alone.
And, if we share how we are feeling with someone else, we become connected, part of something. Like any moment of pulling together, suddenly there are possibilities.
Connections, understanding, compassion, togetherness
You don't have to be isolated in your experience. Because you aren’t. There are around 13 million women going through this…
Reach out, talk, share with those who you feel safe with.
Most importantly, get support. You have the right to claim the space menopause is demanding you take. To hold this time and space for yourself with more kindness and compassion.
You have been supporting others your whole life, it’s now time for YOU.
Time to get the support you deserve. To reconnect with yourself and what YOU want.
To explore the possibilities for this next chapter of your life
I want you to know that, as a woman in this stage of life, you have so much to offer! When you change YOUR experience of menopause WE change the story of menopause
Together we are not alone
